“Goodsin” title was inspired by my crush on Ayra Starr

Ghanaian Afrobeats singer and songwriter, Joel Ofori Bonsu known by the stage name OliveTheBoy has revealed some interesting facts about his breakout song “Goodsin,” off his “Avana” EP which was released in May 2023.

The 21-year-old singer and songwriter, in an exclusive interview with Raza Swaggy on Asaase Radio Cape Coast’s “Rush Hour” made it known that the title was inspired by his longstanding crush on Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr.

According to the singer, he was in the studio with his boys listening to and drawing inspiration from songs from various artistes when a song from Ayra came on. His boys proceeded to tease and make fun of him because of his deep love for the singer which was an open secret. He revealed that he was told to stop admiring someone whom he was likely never to meet. “You know boys boys, teasing and all that. So they were trynna tease me because they felt like why am I admiring somebody that I’m not gonna meet,” he said.

The focused and determined singer was however unperturbed by their jesting and boldly declared that he was going to meet his crush one day. “I was like don’t worry. I’m going to meet her soon and there’s gonna be a Goodsin.”

The singer also disclosed that the second verse of the song was initially a freestyle he made as a cover of one of Kidi’s songs. His management, however, decided to use that as the foundation for a new song and that is how “Goodsin” was birthed.

The singer however mentioned that she did not come to mind for the remix which features King Promise, Oxlade and Reekado Banks.
